I’m thrilled to share an HVAC balancing journey that recently unfolded in the charming Arrowood development in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin. This project, led by mechanical contractor Dave Jones in collaboration with Veridian Homes, the largest homebuilder in Wisconsin, showcases the power of precision balancing using our Rheia Verify application.

Invaluable Design Expertise by Energy Diagnostics: Our design partner, Energy Diagnostics, played a pivotal role behind the scenes. They crafted the design, conducted the calculations, and created the design data seamlessly integrated into Rheia Verify. Their expertise ensures that every step in the balancing journey aligns with the design intent, setting the stage for excellent HVAC performance.

Ensuring Correct Installation: First and foremost, Dave Jones’ installation team ensured that the Rheia system was installed exactly to the construction plans. Precision in installation is the cornerstone for a well-balanced HVAC system.

Harnessing Rheia Verify: The Rheia Verify app is at the heart of the balancing process. To start the process, the HVAC design specific to that home and orientation is loaded into the Rheia Manage database, setting the stage for a thorough, data-driven balancing process. The technician then activates the Rheia Verify app, placing all the HVAC design and balancing data at his fingertips. In the HVAC world, information is power, and Rheia Verify empowers us with the insights needed for optimal performance.

Verifying Equipment: Next on the checklist was ensuring the air handling equipment aligned with the design specifications. A systematic check through Rheia Verify confirmed that the right components were in place, which confirmed the system met the requirements.

Static Pressure Measurement: To delve deeper into system performance, we took a static pressure measurement at the manifold. This critical step allows us to gauge the system’s performance and efficiency, paving the way for informed balancing adjustments. Adjustments to the equipment are made if the static pressure is not within the required range.

CFM Measurements with Precision: Enter the CFM-measuring flowhood. Our tech quickly measured the airflow from each diffuser in the house. When input into Rheia Verify, this data becomes the key to unlocking the ideal balance, room by room.

Setting Rheia Dampers: With room-by-room CFM measurements in hand, Rheia Verify provided clear instructions on adjusting the in-boot dampers. This is the application’s way of providing the perfect adjustment needed for each space, ensuring optimal airflow. The dampers are conveniently located in every boot and can be easily adjusted by hand to one of five settings.

Confirmation and Balance Report: Rheia Verify will automatically generate a detailed commissioning report after making the recommended adjustments.
